My first experience drinking gin

Gin is not a spirit I'd managed to get into in my youth. When I tried it it was always accompanied by tonic and I thought it was awful. When Matt's mum suggested I try it with lemonade, I did as instructed and had a swig. It was lovely. Very fresh and incredibly easy to drink. It didn't taste like alcohol at all but it added a little extra to the lemonade. The next day we were off to a house party, so I decided to pick up a bottle of Bombay Saphire and try out my new chosen tipple.

Usually I stick to the white rum for a drinking session and it does get quite messy but it's a nice drink. I like mine with lemonade or coke. For me it's an easy spirit to drink as I like the flavour but there still is quite an alcohol taste to it. Or maybe that's just because I add too much. Either way from my experience on rum, I knew that a night on gin could go one of two ways, the same way as with rum, or it would be more gentle and leave me feeling fresh the next day. This was not the case.

The night on gin was very fun. It went down very easy and I knocked down a lot more than what the government would be happy with. Soz. It was a messy night but it was fun. I was just saying to some friends that I love being at the age where you don't have to go out to drink. You can all go round someone's house, chat, be merry, play games and get drunk. It's so much more pleasant. I much prefer it to getting trampled on by teens in their five-inch heels and barged out the way by sozzled lads.

There was lots of chatting, dancing and even twerking up the wall. The gin definitely worked it's magic. I was sufficiently drunk and loving life. It was all swell, we got home, had some micro chips and went to bed.

It was only the next morning when I thought that I was dying that I knew the gin had been a bad idea. It is definitely up there with one of my worst hangovers of my life. When I was younger I didn't really drink a lot so as I've grown up and my alcohol consumption has risen, so have my hangovers.

I'm not going to lie to you, I didn't get out of the pit called my bed until 1.30pm. This was only because it was my last day of the Christmas holidays and I thought I couldn't waste it all in bed. The morning was absolutely hideous and I won't relay the all details but it wasn't pleasant.

Overall the night on gin was absolutely brilliant, so much fun and lots of drunken antics. However the morning after was a different story. This may be the end of drinking gin on a big session, I think from now on it will be a drink to enjoy, not knock back so many that I'm left regretting it the next day.
